New Year is almost here.

So it is December 31st, 2007. Time to look back on what I have accomplished this past year and time to look ahead to what is in store for 2008. Unfortunately for any readers who may stumble upon this, this blog is about my running. It serves as a way for me to track my "progress" over time.

So, this past year I set several goals. Goal Number 1. Run 4 miles every day for a year. Check. Achieved at 6:15 a.m. this morning. Goal Number 2. Complete 12 Marathon or longer events. Check. Achieved on December 9, 2007. Goal Number 3. Run 2500 miles in the year. Check. Acheived on December 12, 2007, and surpassed this morning with 2630 total miles for the year (that is just over 50 per week, or 7.2 miles per day)

With my goals achieved for 2007, it is time to set my 2008 goals. And since goals are meant to push one's limits, I think I have set them pretty high.

Goal Number 1. Run 4 miles every day for the year. (I did it this last year, so I think I can accomplish it once again).

Goal Number 2. Complete a 26.2 mile run once each calendar week for one year. (I'm too cheap/poor/busy to actually try to run 52 official marathon events in a year, but I think I can do the same thing unofficially. I look back over this past year and I competed 29 runs of 20 miles or long, and 19 runs of 26.2 miles or longer. So I think it will be a struggle, but I think I can do 52 marathon distance runs in a year. I have set it as "once each calendar week" to add some flexibility into my schedule. Some weeks I can't get that long of a run in on a weekend, sometimes, I will want to get back-to-back marathons in, and some weeks I will want just to build in a break of about 13 days between marathons. So, we will see if that thought works.)

Goal Number 3. Run 3000 miles in a year.

So, it will be a tough year, but if I can stay injury free, I think I can do this. Wish me luck. I will need it especially with this marathon a week deal.
